The use of outdoor garden decorations and furnishings is a wonderful way to really “live” in rooms not normally viewed as such. For example, using finer furnishings, solar lamps, and traditional tables that are crafted to endure the outdoors and the elements is a great way to encourage yourself and your family to head outdoors to enjoy their free time.Choosing Outdoor Garden Decorations That Compliment Your Home
The real trick to selecting the right outdoor decorations is ensuring that they compliment the interior and exterior elements of your home. For instance, the colors of the waterproof upholstery and the styles or shapes of the furnishings should not be in stark contrast to other areas of the home. Instead, such decisions should be made on the basis of a natural transition from interior to exterior “rooms”.
Let’s consider the family home with French doors opening from the dining room to the stone patio outside. When someone enters the dining room they are going to see the furnishings, the wall décor, the lighting fixtures and the window dressings. The obvious choices for any outdoor garden decorations is for them to be in the same general shapes, colors and styles as those seen upon entering the room. For this example, the furnishings might be in a honey pine color and the window dressings in a burgundy floral. This means that the proper choice of outdoor pieces should be somewhat coordinated with these hues to allow the viewer’s eye to move easily from dining room to patio.
Naturally, not all rooms will transition from indoors to outdoors and the decorations will have to be “a good fit” for the elements within the rooms which overlook them. For example, the homeowner must consider their overall decorator style and try very hard to incorporate this general feel into the decorations they place in view, outside of the windows.
Consider the Colonial style home that features a predominately white or beige color scheme. The owners might collect old weather vanes that appear in their large living room area. This means that the visitor is going to see a great deal of black and white and many angular shapes. While the owners can soften this up with their choices in furnishings, the natural choice for the garden view outside of this room’s windows would be one that overlooks a single sculpture or fixture that reflects the lines of the many weathervanes inside the home.
